Poem 4 | {The Night Sky}

By Ajanta Judd All Rights Reserved – 2am Australian EST

Prompt 4: Write an epistolary poem that is a letter from you to someone who has passed and/or someone you have not seen in a long time.

{The Night Sky}

I just wanted to let you know

That I still carry feelings of love for you

In fact, I think of you quite often

What we had was special

…can never be replicated

The other day, reading back through my writing

I came across a poem you had written for me

‘The night sky’; written with such love

There is nothing so moving

as someone writing a poem for me

It touches me deeply

I wonder where you are now

Curled up warm in bed, unaware

whilst I’m bleary-eyed and paying homage to you

Sleep well my friend, I shall come to you

in lucid dreams.

Poem 3 | {Sorrow is my saviour}

By Ajanta Judd All Rights Reserved – 1 am 27/06/2020 Australian EST

Prompt 3: The Bop is one of my favourite poetry forms. There are three stanzas. Each stanza is followed by a refrain (so the same statement is repeated three times). The first stanza is 6 lines long and presents a problem. The second stanza is eight lines long and can explore or expand the problem. The third stanza is 6 lines long and can either present a solution or document a failed attempt to resolve the issue.

{Sorrow is my saviour}

Sorrow is my saviour

Unlike your cold behaviour

At least I can feel my pain

But you are once removed

Emotionally unavailable

and already out the door

That’s what I get for ignoring red flags….!

No more will I fill your void

That great gaping hollow

Which screams to be filled

With bits of the other

Bitten off in chunks

And devoured with relish

I became your receptacle

Where you dumped your baggage

That’s what I get for ignoring red flags….!

Well, I have emptied the bin

Your rubbish has gone to the dump

I’ve gone and washed my hands of you

Sanitised and disinfected

There’s no more harm you can do

You’re out of my life, you’ve been rejected.

That’s what I get for ignoring red flags….!

Poem 2 | {N-dimethyltryptamine}

By Ajanta Judd All Rights Reserved – 12am Australian EST – No Prompt

{N-dimethyltryptamine}

I’m invoking my DMT

so I can float in a sea of bliss

so that I can escape from all of this

in this place – at this time

to a state which is sublime –

far removed from the maddening crowd

at least in this household

at least in this place

where space is a commodity

where validation is a rare gem

where energy floats dysregulated

settling densely in the dust

lying thick on the furniture

drifting insipidly amid the noise

of mindless video games

weighing heavily in the disquiet

of sedentary beings

I’m invoking my DMT

so I can float in a sea of bliss

and escape all this

Poem 1 | {Influence.her}

By Ajanta Judd All Rights Reserved – 11pm Australian EST

Prompt: Write a poem about a famous woman or an influential woman you know personally

{Influence.her}

Well I had something else in mind

but as soon as I saw the prompt I thought of you

so uplifting, real and courageous

so knowledgeable and intelligent

it was you that I wanted and no-one else would do

I could listen to you endlessly

your entertaining banter

your humour and quick wit

and all the while the trials you have overcome

where others have attempted to curtail you

but there would be no holding you down

you stand for women’s rights

you stand for everything that is right in this world

with such a prolific output, creative, talented and wise

a writer, comedian, broadcaster, actor, producer, political activist

a mother, a wife, a friend, a colleague

all contained in one neat inspirational package

you are a legend Sandi Toksvig!

Thank the stars above for people like you!

Greetings fellow marathoners!

My home is on Phillip Island off the Bass coast in the south of Victoria, Australia.

I guess the fact that we are participating in the marathon is an indication that we are healthy and well.

And I also guess there might also be a lot of Covid-19 related poetry happening.

The marathon has snuck up on me but I will do it anyway. I’m a poet, writer and photographer at heart so I’m looking forward to all aspects – but not excited about losing sleep!

Following Jemima’s lead, here is some more about me:

  • Work: Women’s mentor, employment advisor, end of life consultant, small business owner
  • Daily cravings: Poetry, photography, nature, my dogs, chocolate
  • Study: Currently doing a Masters in Creative Writing and literature
  • Motivation for entering the poetry marathon: To loosen up my creative juices and see what I can come up with.

My approach will be relaxed and I intend to make it a (hopefully) non-stressful part of my day/night. I’m not doing anything special food or drink wise but I might go for drives around the Island for inspiration. It’s only 23 kilometres long and max 10k wide but it’s spectacular and we’ve got all the whales coming past on their annual migration at the moment.

I wish everyone all the best and good luck!
