Free Verse – Adventure Time

Between the hardback covers lies an adventure,
in a world as intricately designed as a sunflower
in a garden where a Goddess sits alone knitting
with nature pulled together between her needles.

Her cheddar cheese dreams drown out the drums,
whether earthly bound or in the infinite space
she contains your life in a half-filled wine glass
which lies shattered upon a pebbled pavement.

And lying there on the wine stained floor the same
colour as her nails, one nail the colour of destruction
she waits for adventure while clinging to the fallen oak
as a satchel clings to the arm of a child exploring life.

Triolet – These Words

These words did not speak to me,
they did not excite or turn me on.
I just wanted to feel myself freed
but these words did not speak to me
and what will be, will then always be.
These words however, were not wrong
but these words just did not speak to me
for now I will I do my best to carry on.

Haiku – Elements

I am living air
and water flows in my veins

Sonnet – Survival

The dust never settles. It rains each day.
We stay inside after the sun rises.
The world we left behind us chastises
and now nobody listens when we pray.

There is still time left for another way
as there always was in the world before;
it is harder to listen than ignore,
it is easier to stay than to stray.

But, too many survive instead of thrive
in a world which is mean for all not one
individual right does not beat reason.
Do all that you can while you are alive
to avoid a life spent without the sun
to ensure we survive the next season.

Additional Poems

Cinquain – The Sun

The sun
came long before
and will survive us all
to a time where the light reaches
beyond.

Senryu – Cover My Tracks

I adore the world
and as I find my place here
I leave no footsteps.

Triolet – To The Moon

I sing to the moonlight;
I bow to the sun.
I rise with the world, bright
I sing to the moonlight
in a world beyond night.
I sing to the moonlight
when the work is never done.
I shall sing to the moonlight
while I bow to the sun.

Haiku – Precious

I see in moonlight
a world dusted in silver;
the world is precious.

Villanelle – A God Without An Alter

Through the torn veil of the clear blue sky
she watches her creations make their mistakes;
you can see the jilted Goddess, never to be a bride.

For all that she has ever brought to life
she gives as many chances as her heart breaks
through the torn veil of the clear blue sky.

She never judges, but she has her pride;
she has her reservations which she never states
but you can see the jilted Goddess, never to be a bride.

On the day that you were born, the lonely Goddess cried
for she had found the strength within to do what it takes
by looking through the torn veil of the clear blue sky.

The Goddess never speaks a word so she never lies
when she whispers just one word the world around her shakes.
so whisper when you see the jilted Goddess, never to be bride.

The Goddess knows the world so well that you can never hide
but sleep now restless child, the Goddess will wait until you wake
As you look through the torn veil of the clear blue sky
do not look too long at the jilted Goddess, never to be a bride.

Additional Poems

Senryu – New Life

The Goddess now waits
for the seeds in her garden
to create new life.

Cinquain – A Blessing

Goddess;
I bow to thee
and bless you for this day.
My Creator, I honour you
with words.

Haiku – Seedling

From seedling to tree
many years of life contained
within one small seed.

Triolet – Grown

Do I grow because I am
or because I simply must?
I do all that I can
but do I grow because I am?
To some long forgotten plan
which has crumbled into dust;
do I grow because I am
or because I simply must.

Golden Shovel – Between the Memories

It is only those who can see what lies between
the memories and the fractured thoughts which haunt the
moments of creation, a vast forest made of many woods
growing together until their roots are bound and
even in the coldest Winter their bonds cannot be frozen
or consumed by the river on its way to join the lake.

It is only under the gaze of a burning Winter sun that the
dreamer will wake from nightmares or dreams which are darkest
and only ever come before the dawn and not in evening
when there is still just a little hope left from the day before, of
this you can be sure those dreams will come and come again the
certainty you seek requires a life-time commitment not just a year.

2022©DSCoremans

This poem was inspired by the lines ‘Between the woods and the frozen lake,/the darkest evening of the year.’ Borrowed from Robert Frost’s ‘Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening’.

Additional Poems

Cinquain – Control

Between
My memories
you will find creation
All the things as I wanted them
to be.

Senryu – Wake-Up

I thrive in Winter
when the rest of the world sleeps
I can then wake up.

Triolet – Coldest Winter

The coldest Winter within the trees
still contains life tucked away,
from the dormant bears, to the dosing bees.
The coldest Winter within the trees;
where the wind would bring you to your knees,
where none but the bravest choose to stay.
The coldest Winter in the trees
still contains life tucked away.

Haiku – Evergreen

Green may be the leaf
of the tree under the snow,
not all branches bare.

Sonnet – Life is Art

Does art imitate life, or is life art;
a sequence of exhibits to be seen
just once in a life-time, or through a screen
but beauty feels superficial through glass.

Only by standing with bare feet upon the grass
can you understand what feeling must mean
to the birds on the branches as they preen
birds which were ready to fly from the start.

It is in their nature to touch the sky
to return to build a home from debris
creating new life without intention.
Nature is beauty, without having to try
or be shown , birds build a nest in a tree
until it is ready for creation.

Additional Poems

Cinquain – Life, The Canvas

Life is
little more than
a canvas prepped for art.
Look to those around to inspire
your mind.

Haiku – Water

Water cannot fall
before first it has risen
gathered by the sun.

Triolet – Within the Lines

Within the lines of repetition
and in the words you left unsaid.
There is no need for my permission
within the lines of repetition
just be sure of your decision
and in the words you left unsaid.
Within the lines of repetition
and in the lines you left unsaid.

Senryu – Rise Up

I cannot rise up,
not until I have fallen
and I must stand up.

Hour 24: Villanelle – When I Am Far From Home

Villanelle – When I Am Far From Home

I get guilty thinking of home,

not being within these walls

somewhere, that I don’t belong.

Sometimes it feels right; sometimes wrong

walking up and down the same halls

and I get guilty thinking of home.

Music sounds the same in every song;

and watching as the time falls

away, somewhere that I don’t belong.

I started weak, I finished strong;

time moving fast, and still life stalls

when I get guilty thinking of home.

I know that I am never alone.

How many times can I ignore the calls

away, somewhere that I don’t belong.

It is true the we still want to roam

away, at times we walk and some we crawl

along; getting guilty for thinking of home

as somewhere that I don’t belong.

Hour 23: Sonnet – Sheogorath Lord of The Shivering Isles

Sonnet – Sheogorath Lord of The Shivering Isles

When I think of cheese, I think of madness;

his laughing eyes lead to his empty soul.

All thanks to the mighty Sheogorath;

to time, immortal, ever to be whole.

The shivering Isles of Oblivion

Beyond his gateway to great Tamriel;

using cheese for practically everything,

to decorate his own personal Hell.

A cheddar lamp-shade, a Camembert bed,

a Feta couch, and a Halloumi shed

  A cottage cheese slip and slide on the stairs,

Mammoth cheese mini-fridge, Gouda for days.

Stay at the price of your rational mind;

stay for too long, where soon no-one can find.

Hour 22: Villanelle – Summer Nights

Villanelle – Summer Nights

I dress the trees behind me

in layers, just like leaves

as the cold summer nights still freeze.

I can feel in the morning a gentle breeze

caress my tired eyes with a loving kiss

as I dress the trees behind me.

In Winter these bare bones hold no leaves;

in Autumn leaves fall like the stars we wish

upon my shoulders the cold Summer nights still freeze.

But in Spring, once more, I do as I please;

the hardest thing to do is to forgive

as I dress the trees behind me.

In my memories of the times where we

had all the time of life left to live,

now the cold Summer nights still freeze.

And still, I walk among the barren trees

save for the spiders high among the branches weave

who have dressed the trees behind me

for the cold Summer nights still freeze.

Hour 21: Sonnet – Ode to A Forgotten Self

Sonnet – Ode to A Forgotten Self

You there, yes you, did you think I forgot

You are far more special to me than that

I have tried to stop you from falling flat

but in concern I found I over-shot.

Pulling you back too fast when you felt hot

I realise now, I only ever held you back

Ready to fall at the smallest attack

I thought I was helping, but I was not.

You had to learn to find the strength within,

you who have learned beyond me are stronger.

And I am just glad that we share our skin

Now that you don’t need me any longer.

The warring selves are now back together

Now seize the day in any weather.
