Oh lucky me!

Such a glorious feeling, creativity

My favourite pen dances merrily

along immersed in vitality

My words it’s wake for all to see.

My words, my contribution to society,

my grip on literary opportunity.

The best me is creative me.

What more could I ask life to be?

Silly then should be silly now!

I’m old enough to remember the eighties

and the various trends that succeeded and failed

but the one that had us most on our knees

was when bottled water first came on sale.

How we pointed and laughed at yuppie chaps

pouring Perrier onto ice and lemon

wasting money on what came free from taps

and staying sober into the bargain.

We were totally sure that this crazy fad

would be over and done with in no time at all.

Blissful ignorance of the power of the ad

and coercion possible with media bankroll.

The public have long been scared, duped and played

convinced to contribute to the corporate cash cow.

The industry has power, the environments destroyed

and none of us are laughing now.

Fighting the evil

An example of how Irish banks do business

When they should have been on their knees

Begging the Irish peoples forgiveness

For the harm they did to our economy

In Ulster bank they devised a way

Introducing an evil new monthly charge

That big balanced privileged need not pay

To further punish the public at large.

Four euros a month unless you’ve got three grand

For which you get fuck all in return

When are we just gonna unite and stand

against these monsters that deserve to burn?

My mate Mick has a great fighting strategy

He superglues the lock on every door

once a year in his bank so the locksmiths fee

means the bastards don’t profit from him being poor.

Taperment

Tall and lovely, free flowing and elegant

Beauty outside, and inside no different

In motion a vision of what all men want

Somehow it was me to whom your heart leant

My ears to which your sultry words went

Husky, loquatious and eloquent

Soothingly making me so content

Then musing where each God sent

Glorious moment

We spent

Went.

Kevin Brennan first timer.

Hi

My name is Kevin Brennan and this is my first time doing the poetry marathon.

I am from Dublin Ireland. I am currently working on my second novel, a science fiction story that starts in the present and goes fifty years into a utopian future where the human race saves itself and the planet thanks to a world wide shift in attitude.

Here is a pilot episode from my first book, Gurriers.

I perform poetry in The International Bar in Dublin every Wednesday at a fantastic event called Dublin’s Underground Beat. This is a music and poetry open mike night where all artists are welcome. We get lots of oversea talent. Last night we had a poet from Chicago, a blues guitarist from Salt Lake City and a harmonica player from Germany.

Any poets who come to Ireland should come and join us for a session.
