Cheese, please – Hour 23

A poet hardly ever receives

an invitation to write about cheese.

Lack of imagination

            could be the reason

            lactose intolerance.

“Maggie May” – Hour 22

Rod Stewart sang it.

My parents said it.

My roommate played it.

My husband tried it.

The marathon requested it.

So, here goes…

“Wake up, Maggie, I think I got something to say to you.”

Night vision – Hour 20

Streetlights begin to glow,

And the day goes home for supper.

Cicadas call to the setting sun,

While moonbeams dance in the lazy shadows.

Nocturnal songs on distant winds,

Evening repose.

I am – Hour 19

I am all and enough for me.

I wonder at the sight of babies.

I hear the sound of hummingbird wings.

I see mermaids walking on land.

I want to go to Burning Man.

I am all and enough for me.

I pretend I’m a giant in the land of Lilliputians.

I feel the tick tock of time.

I touch rainbows.

I worry about the homeless.

I cry when animals die.

I am all and enough for me.

I understand what it’s like to be bullied.

I say, there’s no time like the present.

I dream of living on a farm.

I try to eat healthier.

I hope my tattoos don’t fade.

I am all and enough for me.

Whispers – Hour 18

When I am no longer here

Just be still

And listen.

You will hear my voice

Whispering in the wind.

What has been

Will always be.

Trust me.

Just be still

And listen.
