Hour Fourteen

What do you want for dinner?

Food.

Seriously, could you be more specific?

Edible food.

Really?

I don’t know, what have we got?

And so begins the ritual…

Listing every ingredient, the endless contents of cupboard, fridge, freezer, shelf.

Bantering possibilities…

Chicken? We had that yesterday.

Spaghetti? I’m tired of spaghetti.

French toast? We’re out of bread.

Tuna casserole? Not now, not ever.

Burgers? Hot dogs? Mac ‘n cheese? Pasta? Soup? Rice and beans? Fish sticks? Pot roast? Tacos? Stew?

Doesn’t matter, honey, I’ll leave it up to you…

A nightly debate about something so simple, until at my wits end….

I order a pizza instead.

Hour Thirteen

Angel, demon

Sinner, saint

Light, dark

Wicked, pure

Day, night

Black, white

Love, hate

War, peace

Heaven, hell

Evil, innocent

Absolutes?

Hour Twelve

Where do I go from here?

When there’s nothing new under the sun?

Every song has been sung,

Every book has been written,

Anything that can be done has already been done.

So, where do I go from here?

When every road has been traveled?

Every path has been taken,

Every adventure has been had,

Any place that can be discovered has already been claimed.

So, where do I go from here?

When every thought had already been thought?

Every idea has been explored,

Every invention has been produced,

Anything that can be made has already been made.

So, where do I go from here?

When every person has become who they are?

Every warrior has been tested,

Every hero has been revered,

Anyone who will be great had already been celebrated.

So, where do I go from here?

Hour Eleven

You see, life has no guarantees

Wishes aren’t granted

And dreams seldom come true

But then how does that explain me and you?

Hour Ten

That smile…

The one that reaches your eyes,

The one that makes my heart swell,

The one I seldom see,

The one you only show to me.

That smile…

The one that you hide so well,

The one that brightens my darkest mood,

The one I would walk across fire for,

The one you don’t see, that’s only meant for me.

That smile…

The one I first saw so long ago,

The one that takes me right back there,

The one that makes me forget I’m angry,

The one that turns back time.

That smile…

The one that keeps us young,

The one that reminds me why I love you,

The one that makes me feel your love,

The one I want to see for the rest of my life…

That smile.

Hour Nine

Do you hear me?

Sometimes I wonder,

As I watch you watching me.

Do my words get through?

You don’t respond,

Just that gaze…And no reply

Hour Eight

The future is a place I’ve never been, maybe I never will

It’s a thought I’ve yet to have

A spark not quite ignited

A dream I once had that may never come to pass

The past is a place I’ve yet to escape, maybe I never will

It’s a lesson I’m suppose to learn

Trauma and regret I can’t change

A time I’m destined to relive every night

Hour Six

Through a door that isn’t really a door,

A keyhole into another world, a world of light

But should we fear the light? The unknown beyond the wall?

All that glitters is not gold and darkness is often hidden in light

A charming smile hides a blackened heart, the Morning Star became a demon

Is it safer on our side of the wall? Is it safer in our world?

Even the known holds terrors, nightmares in our own minds

So which is the lesser evil, the known or the unknown?

Is it truly better the devil you know than the devil you don’t?

Hour Five

Granting wishes

Righting wrongs

Waving wands

Singing songs

Adventure craved

A fairy’s life, I love it so
