Dear Self (Early teen) – H.J ©️

2019 – 11th Hour
In response to the Prompt ©️ H.J

~ Dear Self ~

You sit by the window,
Blue;
Unsure of what is to come for you.

For now,
You’ve been a martyr.

Each took their piece,
That’s true,
But we still fall in love with you.

Brave, bright and beautiful!
Chants everyone who
Can see through the fog
to the light that is you.

So sit by the window;
Unafraid to let go –
For there is more gold
than you’ve ever been told,

Freedom! –
Uncontrolled;
And distant plans,
So bold.

And the purest love
That you’ll have ever known!

  1. Hello,
    I looked for your poem for Hour 5 and couldn’t find it. I came across this, however, and identified with your young self. I like this for your submission to the anthology. Could you add a bit more about the relationships between the audience “we” and your young teenage self? Early you write “But we still fall in love with you.” Other places you could add a version of this — “and we stand in awe of you” or “and we sigh with you” or any other comment you find true of your teenage experience.
