Hour 21: Sonnet – Ode to A Forgotten Self

Sonnet – Ode to A Forgotten Self

You there, yes you, did you think I forgot

You are far more special to me than that

I have tried to stop you from falling flat

but in concern I found I over-shot.

Pulling you back too fast when you felt hot

I realise now, I only ever held you back

Ready to fall at the smallest attack

I thought I was helping, but I was not.

You had to learn to find the strength within,

you who have learned beyond me are stronger.

And I am just glad that we share our skin

Now that you don’t need me any longer.

The warring selves are now back together

Now seize the day in any weather.

  1. Darren- I really enjoyed reading your Ode To A Forgotten Self. I loved reading the dialogue and exchange between the two parts of you…seeming to go in separate ways but in the end, coming back together in strength”…”The warring selves are now back together…Now seize the day in any weather”. Beautiful rhyming couplet.

    1. Thank you Ingrid, I don’t remember writing this one as well, so reading it back I was amazed to see how right you are, it is like a conversation between two people both talking over the other until they arrive at a mutual understanding of one another.

I love how sometime it takes the insight of other learned minds to show us the truth in our own work. Thank you for your feedback Ingrid.

Read this over and over again, Darren. We are all guilty of doing this. Complete empathy.
And as I said on another post, very proud to know you
