an open letter to Theodor Geisel (hour 11)

Dear Dr. Geisel,

There seems to have been a misunderstanding.

We were told that we’d be going places.
Well, let me tell you a thing or two, sir —
we’ve got a real mess on our hands now and we simply cannot
keep it under our hats any longer.

My friend Cindy Lou, who lives over on
Mulberry Street, says it doesn’t matter if we’re
red or blue or old or new, that every heart
should have a chance to grow.

(My friend Sam, I am sad to say,
has gone a bit green over the whole thing, although perhaps
that’s neither here nor there.)

Now, to be fair, if I ran this circus it would probably be even worse.
But I know some very smart people, and oh, the things they think!
They say that if enough of us care a whole awful lot,
we could make some real changes around here.
I must confess that, while I didn’t hear who first
hatched the plan, I’m behind it 100%.

Perhaps we can sit down together sometime and discuss these matters further,
but for now, I must go.

Yours sincerely,
Marvin K. Mooney
