Hearing and Not Hearing

I hear sounds
Meanings carried like melodies
But the lyrics are lost
In theĀ acousticĀ ocean.

Hearing tests passed
In quiet rooms the waves still
Soft voices and bright tones
Like clear waters

No ear-worn aid
Could teach my brain to hear
One sound against a thousand
One fish in the shoal

I relax with
Sign language and subtitles
But may not request them
Not being deaf

I love sounds
Music is a lifeline with which
I catch your meaning
If not your words

  1. No ear-worn aid

    One fish in the shoal

people who have not worn a hearing aid will not know the experience of suddenly hearing everything i think you refer to here.

So early in the morning to read this with loving care.

    1. From what I’ve been told, my hearing is like I’m wearing a hearing aid – except I’m not. It’s rather frustrating!

Got a whole weekind of sign language coming up though. Hooray!
