A Place To Play

When I was a child
I was warned about “those people”
Who had long hair
Wore bell bottom jeans
Lived in communes loving freely
Smoked pot (long before it was legal)
They were called “hippies”
They were no good
They were lazy
They caused trouble
I was told I didn’t want to grow up
to be like them

Fifty years later,
there is no other place I would rather play
But in the shadow of the moon
