Last time I participated was in, oh gosh, 2016! I never got all of those poems posted. I wrote 24 in 24, but only posted half of them… This year I wrote the 24 in 24 and ALL have been posted! And apparently Im on a writing jag now as I have written a few more! I may have to post those to my personal blog space!

as I sit to write
I wonder where
the words come from
do I get them from
my brain? or do I
pluck them from the air?-
I wonder. Sometimes it seems to be one, other times the other.
-
Lovely! I love the word “pluck”. I think we have words, sometimes they escape and whether we put them back into our minds or not is our discretion.
-
This is an honest poem. I know that I, too, often wonder just where the words come from. Sometimes they are so elusive. I like the word “pluck” which suggests a deliberate selection of one or many words rather than just having them drift around at random. Nice.

Hummingbird
as I gaze out the window pane
I see a tiny blur
zipping around the flowers
of a rose of sharon tree
the blur zips and zings
hovering here and there
as it drinks the nectar

the tuning of his soul
the softness of his voice
as he leaves for the show

draw me into him
as he would leave each

Silence
the house is still
I can hear the wind
outside, blowing –
creaks and groans
of the old framework
and pops of the windows
break the solemnity of
the house
as I drift off into slumber -

This one was especially true for me between about hours 4-22 this year. Even though I was writing I was struggling immensely to string together a coherent thought. Tried caffeine, tried alcohol, tried a hot shower, a hot meal, some cuddle time on the couch with my dogs. Nothing was working. Tried a mini power nap even. Eventually had to power through it and just keep putting pen to paper. Every piece we write won’t always be an award winner, and that doesn’t mean we have failed. Great poem.

Laughter floats through the air.
Children’s screams of joy!
The lawn sprinkler shoots
cool water up towards the
hot, summer sun as
the kids run through! -

dusk falls
soft music plays as we

a glass of wine
light conversation
