Grilled Cheese – Hour 21, Prompt 21

There it is, the silver plate
A single smaller one atop,
and on it that heavenly meal.
A crisped golden brown, the smell
of hot cheese, full of might and power.
Yet I cannot grasp it, it lies within my dreams…

Grilled cheese~ You are what I need…Grilled Cheese~
Why won’t you come to me…

It’s quick to cook, it smells
like heaven, a dish from
the gods of dairy and grain,
So wonderful, yet difficult,
I cannot attain my grilled
honey wheat bread with
cheese, it’s just out of reach
missing a key ingredient…

Grilled cheese~ You are what I need…Grilled Cheese~
Why won’t you come to me…

I could make it right now,
I could grab the bread, slice the bread
Melt the butter at a medium heat
Put the cheese on the bread
Place it on the pan and flip it,
But I’m so very tired…

Grilled cheese~ You are what I need…Grilled Cheese~
Why won’t you come to me…

    1. Thank you <3 I sincerely wanted a grilled cheese sandwich at the time and thankfully my husband made one later because he's awesome. It was really fun to write as a bop.

  1. This was the first poem of another author I have read from the marathon and I am so glad it was.

You set the bar high. I hear this sang in my head as a 90’s grunge song being wailed into the night. Maybe that’s just me. πŸ˜…

I have been dairy free for a few years now, but I can still recollect that heavenly smell from Stanza 2…actually now I’m hungry, and I kinda want some grilled cheese. Go figure. πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ

    Great poem. 😊

  2. Oh my god, I love this poem and it made me laugh, too!

And I know EXACTLY how you feel about that grilled cheese – I’ve been vegan for nearly a year now and had my FIRST grilled (not)cheese sandwich last night – and it was PERFECTION.

Here’s to you – and to grilled cheese sandwiches. <3
