The Gifts That Made Me -Hour 24, Prompt 24

My mother gave me candy,
I ate it and got sick.
She yelled as if it was my fault.

My mother gave me money,
I spent it and got food
She yelled as if it was my fault.

My mother gave me food
I ate it and didn’t like it.
She called me ungrateful.

So when I have kids how do I raise them?
Should I give them gifts?
I’ll try it, and try to explain
how to properly use my gifts.

I’ll be better.

  1. This is interesting. The poet presents the situation and then at the end proposes what might be a solution, to tell her future children how to use her gifts. But, she surely knows from her own self and experience that they will not want to be told how to use the gifts. The children will be spontaneous and do whatever calls to them them in the moment. And hopefully she will smile and enjoy their creativity.
