My Only Defense

(hour 18)

By Sandy Lender

Like sunshine streaming through clouds

…after forty days of torrential storm

Like the first absence of throbbing

…after the pounding, constant migraine

Like the gentle brush of butterfly wings

…after fire has consumed the world around us

Is the comfort of knowing you petition for me

…in the presence of our Father.

  1. This is a wonderful expression of the power of grace. Even as a non-religious person I can feel this, the love so powerful it lifts one away from the deepest possible pain. This is my favorite kind of expression of faith, because it’s truly raw.

As a killjoy critic, the butterfly imagery feels a little misplaced.

But don’t listen to the professor, it’s a beautiful testimony.
