180 Degree Horizon

The world must have started

in a land like Illinois

where the land is flat and modest

without obtrusions of outrageous color

or geographical interruptions of

the Greats like Vesuvius

  1. I never would had considered making comparison to the start of life on the planet to Illinois. It’s both funny and thoughtful. Fun alliteration on words with “obtrusions” and “outrageous” (and even the o’s in color play into that), and the phrase “geographical interruptions” is a unique word combination. Love that. I think you should get bonus points for ending a poem on the word Vesuvius. It leaves a nice ring in the reader’s ear.
