{"id":100629,"date":"2021-06-27T03:10:26","date_gmt":"2021-06-27T07:10:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/?p=100629"},"modified":"2021-07-04T03:50:45","modified_gmt":"2021-07-04T07:50:45","slug":"hour-20-the-caged-birds-aria","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2021\/06\/hour-20-the-caged-birds-aria\/","title":{"rendered":"HOUR 20 The Caged Bird&#8217;s Aria"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Caged Bird\u2019s Aria<\/p>\n<p>Dependent on the doting demon that enslaved me,<br \/>\nCrippled by his steady hand, pain thwarted,<br \/>\nBy that which he administers cautiously,<br \/>\nEnsuring perpetual imprisonment.<\/p>\n<p>Dyer-Bolique removed an unwanted lower limb,<br \/>\nChaining body and soul indefinitely to him,<br \/>\nHis silent whispers mouth \u2018no pain.\u2019<br \/>\nSinging in his steel cage.<\/p>\n<p>In his sights before I knew of his shadowy existence,<br \/>\nTargeting his kindred spirit, only to cage her,<br \/>\nThat was always YOUR design!<\/p>\n<p>Words of surrender no longer pass my lips,<br \/>\nIt is given wordlessly, and enforced aggressively,<br \/>\nDuplicitous Dyer-Bolique; protector and prison guard.<\/p>\n<p>Still, he shares his torture of others with me,<br \/>\nStill, he touches me with rapturous passion,<br \/>\nDriven by the thrill of my defeat.<br \/>\nSwollen with my suffering.<\/p>\n<p>I do not speak, but I sing to appease his fervent ire,<br \/>\nThe dulcet melody disarms his fortifications,<br \/>\nAnd I please him with my passionate tones.<\/p>\n<p>Day and night merge, submission is a waiting game,<br \/>\nAnd the opportune moment arrives,<br \/>\nAs he descends to our basement,<br \/>\nI try to flee.<\/p>\n<p>Thee chair so thoughtfully given, drives forth,<br \/>\nTowards the unguarded portcullis,<br \/>\nThe key is turned quietly,<br \/>\nHandle pulled down,<br \/>\nDoor manipulated\u2026<\/p>\n<p>As freedom calls to the caged bird within,<br \/>\nHis shadow looms behind me.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Caged Bird\u2019s Aria Dependent on the doting demon that enslaved me, Crippled by his steady hand, pain thwarted, By that which he administers cautiously, Ensuring perpetual imprisonment.
