Dove Chocolates<\/p>\n
I hid the bag, knowing it was there
\nsecond shelf of the pantry behind
\nthe box of stale crackers no one wants.
\nBut still I left it there, waiting, waiting
\nfor a time when need was greater
\nthan patience.<\/p>\n
I knew this day would be blazing
\nwith stress so I rescued the bag
\nyesterday and put it on my desk.
\nSo far today, which has morphed
\ninto tomorrow, I haven\u2019t opened
\nthe bag.<\/p>\n
But time is not playing fair, stress
\nis building like a skyscraper, so
\nI deserve one. And besides,
\nthe foil wrapper has inspirations
\nprinted on them that I could write
\na poem from. I peel the foil slow
\nso as not to tear it, pop the square
\ninto my mouth, savor that first
\nsmooth melting.<\/p>\n
I flatten the foil and read
\nJoy is contagious.
\nOk, I agree but I am not inspired by it.
\nI countermine the thought of another, yet
\nfind it open in my hand, dark chocolate
\nsquare a nub of deliciousness and read
\nFind holiday magic in all things.<\/p>\n
I sense a theme here, check the bag,
\ngood until December, still 6 months
\naway, no festive pictures on the bag;
\nnot stale, they are as decadent as
\nI remember.<\/p>\n
Without warning, another
\nBring in the holiday together
\nand here I have to gather willpower, seal
\nthe bag and wonder what holiday together
\nwith whom?<\/p>\n
Not as inspirational as I\u2019d hoped, but
\nan intoxicating, delectable, wanton way
\nto de-stress. Ok, maybe just one more
\nif I can unwrap the layers of packing tape
\nI wound around it, unstick the super glue,
\nand remove staples without stabbing myself.<\/p>\n
On second thought, the bag is already sealed
\nand it will stay fresh until December.
\nYeah, let\u2019s see how long that will last.<\/p>\n
