{"id":10483,"date":"2015-06-13T18:28:25","date_gmt":"2015-06-13T22:28:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/?p=10483"},"modified":"2015-06-13T18:28:25","modified_gmt":"2015-06-13T22:28:25","slug":"poem-10-la-vida","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2015\/06\/poem-10-la-vida\/","title":{"rendered":"Poem #10:  La Vida."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Not only does the day drag on,<\/p>\n<p>But baby, you lead me astray,<\/p>\n<p>And I can&#8217;t behave in your presence,<\/p>\n<p>I want to unravel and break all the shit in your home.<\/p>\n<p>I want to destroy the peace that you cling to,<\/p>\n<p>The emptiness of your mind, give me the time to rummage through every box,<\/p>\n<p>And mismanage your heart the way you did mine.<\/p>\n<p>Bitterness creeps through these halls,<\/p>\n<p>And I am all of the best parts you could have been,<\/p>\n<p>If you loved me and not her,<\/p>\n<p>Or you loved who you really were,<\/p>\n<p>But sometimes we hide in the closet until the darkness,<\/p>\n<p>Comes to find us.<\/p>\n<p>And the light, oh god, the light,<\/p>\n<p>Will fucking ruin us with the truth,<\/p>\n<p>Here in this city, if you do not get away from it.<\/p>\n<p>I know that this is life,<\/p>\n<p>The crazy ballad to our chaotic turns,<\/p>\n<p>About the room, the glass figures telling us what we should do,<\/p>\n<p>As you travel behind your walls,<\/p>\n<p>That cover your mind and your heart,<\/p>\n<p>Your lips moving but always silent,<\/p>\n<p>Picking and choosing the lies,<\/p>\n<p>The deceptive gold behind your tongue,<\/p>\n<p>This day is for you, la vida, the life you lead,<\/p>\n<p>This day is for you, all these poems are about you, baby,<\/p>\n<p>The man who at 21, has ruined every good part of me,<\/p>\n<p>And these are for you,<\/p>\n<p>all of them, between now and later,<\/p>\n<p>The satisfaction of your heart against my bones,<\/p>\n<p>Seeping out like a runny memory we refuse to patch up,<\/p>\n<p>I am here, the ghost, and the phantom pain,<\/p>\n<p>Until you come find me,<\/p>\n<p>La vida.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Not only does the day drag on, But baby, you lead me astray, And I can&#8217;t behave in your presence, I want to unravel and break all the shit in your home.
