The mirror is a time machine,<\/p>\n
each tiny wrinkle sending you back<\/p>\n
over all the places you’ve ever been,<\/p>\n
the reflection of your whole life’s track.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The tiny scar invisible to most<\/p>\n
from the lesson learned that awful night<\/p>\n
by the stupid kid, now memory’s ghost<\/p>\n
needing to be taught how to not fight.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The nose, after five years in the ring,<\/p>\n
even though they were just teenage years,<\/p>\n
flattened somewhat by persistent punching.<\/p>\n
‘Blood and snots’ memories bring tears.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Thirty Dublin winters on two wheels,<\/p>\n
protective visor barely down.<\/p>\n
I know how sandblasted pollution feels<\/p>\n
from driving motorbikes in this town.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Orthodontal overhang and whistly breadth.<\/p>\n
I should have been warned before the braces,<\/p>\n
But all in all I don’t regret.<\/p>\n
Mine is not the worst of faces.<\/p>\n
