I didn&#8217;t learn<br \/>\nto float until I was fifty,<br \/>\nin a water aerobics class,<br \/>\nmostly older women. The young instructor<br \/>\ncalled us his water buffalo<br \/>\nand it got back to us.<br \/>\nWe adopted the name.<\/p>\n<p>Couldn&#8217;t swim, but that didn&#8217;t stop me<br \/>\nfrom going over the side of a boat<br \/>\noff Buck Island, snorkeling<br \/>\nalong the reef. Still amazed<br \/>\nat the school of bright blue fish<br \/>\nwho swam as one sinuous body.<\/p>\n<p>Couldn&#8217;t swim, but that didn&#8217;t stop me<br \/>\nreveling in hot water,<br \/>\nmy morning shower, the space<br \/>\nwhere a woman can think,<br \/>\nsculpt lines of poetry,<br \/>\nplay out scenes in a novel,<br \/>\nsolve the world&#8217;s problems.<\/p>\n<p>What do I know about water?<br \/>\nWe can&#8217;t live without it.<br \/>\nWe don&#8217;t eat without it.<br \/>\nForests and prairies burn<br \/>\nwhen there is too little rain.<br \/>\nChildren and old folks starve<br \/>\nalong with the livestock<br \/>\nduring a drought.<\/p>\n<p>Water creates canyons<br \/>\nover eons as it wears away stone,<br \/>\nand makes my morning coffee,<br \/>\nwater and bitter beans,<br \/>\nhappen.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>about water?
