Waiting for days<\/p>\n
everyone waits,<\/p>\n
patiently<\/p>\n
or impatiently<\/p>\n
everything is waiting<\/p>\n
farmers, gardeners, workers<\/p>\n
crops, lawns, gardens,<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Finally.<\/p>\n
First, I shiver, just a bit\u00a0 —<\/p>\n
it is just a bit cooler.<\/p>\n
The sun has nodded off,<\/p>\n
the clouds no longer white puff balls.<\/p>\n
Something is different.<\/p>\n
On the edge of something.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Walking from the garden to the house<\/p>\n
there had been nothing to harvest<\/p>\n
even weeds are wilting.<\/p>\n
hot afternoons, — how many in a row?<\/p>\n
The first drops are too strange to recognize.<\/p>\n
My mind is on a pasta salad,<\/p>\n
without peppers. tomatoes, green onions.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
OH!<\/p>\n
I finally feel the distinct wet spot<\/p>\n
on my bare arm.<\/p>\n
Unsure, unfamiliar,<\/p>\n
I have to double check<\/p>\n
Is that brown ground truly speckled?<\/p>\n
YES!\u00a0 \u00a0 Thank you, Lord!<\/p>\n
