A Life in the Day (of the Mayfly)<\/p>\n
Alight. All burning bright. Alive. Awake.<\/p>\n
Like the Damselflies, Dragonflies and Mayflies;<\/p>\n
in summer. Some last a couple years,<\/p>\n
fewer don’t make it through spring,<\/p>\n
even others live for just one day.<\/p>\n
In the bog. There on lily pad<\/p>\n
nestled atop the bent frond on<\/p>\n
the frog pond, I hear a faint sound,<\/p>\n
hidden under the gum wrapper blanket,<\/p>\n
ensconced is our hero– Charlie, an egg.<\/p>\n
Dewy and downy, and covered in soil.<\/p>\n
Another mayfly, another mouth at the plate.<\/p>\n
Young one fast find your place in this world<\/p>\n
Or succumb to the toil.<\/p>\n
Fast before she skates<\/p>\n
to the other side of the log.<\/p>\n
Hey Charlie! Take us on a trip,<\/p>\n
even skip across the dish. We wish.<\/p>\n
May you get to the other side.<\/p>\n
Away with you now Charlie,<\/p>\n
you still have time to live,<\/p>\n
forget the time to die. Take flight.<\/p>\n
Loosen up and have some fun.<\/p>\n
You’ll make it through the night!<\/p>\n
