\n<\/span>unable to surface
\n<\/span>unable to breathe,
\n<\/span>churning
\n<\/span>twirling
\n<\/span>tossed to and fro.<\/span><\/p>\n
\n<\/span>a muffled burbling,
\nas if in a dream,
\n<\/span>a bubbling,
\n<\/span>the sucking of water,
\n<\/span>a seething power
\n<\/span>surrounding me
\n<\/span>and I am helpless.<\/span><\/p>\n
\n<\/span>that scratch my skin,
\n<\/span>scraping along the seabed.
\n<\/span>swirling, swirling,
\nendlessly it seems
\n<\/span>my lungs should burst for want of air
\n<\/span>until at last
\n<\/span>I am tossed up,
\n<\/span>spewed out,
\n<\/span>surrendered as the surf recedes
\n<\/span>gasping, sputtering,
\n<\/span>draining water from every orifice,
\n<\/span>like a beached whale
\n<\/span>upon the sand.<\/span><\/p>\n
