Craddled & trained<\/p>\n
Ball catching but I prefer food<\/p>\n
Sniffing through the garbage bag<\/p>\n
Hopefully my master’s nowhere around<\/p>\n
Chasing the squirrels and field bunnies<\/p>\n
Sprawling out in the shade<\/p>\n
Rolling over back and forth to take that itch away<\/p>\n
Aware of my surroundings<\/p>\n
Keen sense of anyone or thing approaching me or them<\/p>\n
Gulps of water from a bowl, or even rain water sitting in one of the holes I dug up the other day<\/p>\n
Restless a lot but caressing me a special way eases my nerves<\/p>\n
I try to be nice and play but the strangers run away<\/p>\n
Yet I do have my moments when I get defensive, ready to attack<\/p>\n
It’s just how I’m wired and how my family told me I should act<\/p>\n
Unless I choose to disobey<\/p>\n
And do it my way<\/p>\n
Face my punishment<\/p>\n
No daily park trip<\/p>\n
Nor walk around the neighborhood<\/p>\n
Just pacing in and out the rooms of our house<\/p>\n
I still love them though<\/p>\n
I make my discontent heard through moans<\/p>\n
They go away<\/p>\n
I do my usual thing<\/p>\n
A familiar scent<\/p>\n
Instantaneous tail wagging<\/p>\n
