{"id":107582,"date":"2022-06-25T10:15:19","date_gmt":"2022-06-25T14:15:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/?p=107582"},"modified":"2022-06-25T10:15:19","modified_gmt":"2022-06-25T14:15:19","slug":"gasolina-poem-2-of-12-half-marathon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2022\/06\/gasolina-poem-2-of-12-half-marathon\/","title":{"rendered":"Gasolina (poem 2 of 12, half marathon)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Gasolina<\/p>\n<p>Smells like a flame<br \/>\nSomething that\u2019s about to ignite<br \/>\nStings deep in the sinuses<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Part of it is already<br \/>\nBecoming something else,<br \/>\naerosol, evaporant.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Permissive, soaks into wood.<br \/>\nNo texture, as it touches my skin<br \/>\nand starts to dissolve.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It takes the shape of its container<br \/>\nFlame thrower is a given<br \/>\nAdvertised direct to your email<br \/>\nYou don\u2019t know why you need it<br \/>\nUntil you hold it in your hands,<br \/>\nUntil you douse a body,<br \/>\nAnd see it catch on fire.<br \/>\nUntil you\u2019ve scorched the earth<br \/>\nEverything an unrecognizable crisp.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019ll cause a fire<br \/>\nTo whir and roar<br \/>\nHave a its own heated weather sun<br \/>\noutrun a landscape already bone dry<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This liquid is a love song,<br \/>\nA horror show<br \/>\nFumes soak through even a porous<br \/>\nsurface like cement<br \/>\nCarry fire through the stone<br \/>\nSometimes cause a fire burrow,<br \/>\nA lava tube, just plain need.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Why would you need to place a thing<br \/>\nThat\u2019s already there, goes where it will,<br \/>\nwhere you wouldn\u2019t think to travel<br \/>\nLike a soft rain at night, barely audible,<br \/>\nLike a cleansing whisper,<br \/>\nJust let it happen, let it absorb,<br \/>\nIt\u2019s on your breath<br \/>\nIt\u2019ll take any form, call it a wish, a taking<br \/>\nA draining, call it a slow burn.
