the ancient beech and oak<\/p>\n
on<\/p>\n
the banks of the Delaware<\/p>\n
on Riverside Drive<\/p>\n
The Trenton historian said<\/p>\n
that that oak was the<\/p>\n
Last Rebel Standing<\/p>\n
one of the few remaining trees<\/p>\n
that witnessed<\/p>\n
General Washington and his troops crossing the river<\/p>\n
for the Battle of Trenton<\/p>\n
the birth of our \u00a0nation<\/p>\n
Little Candace, with her five year old clairvoyance<\/p>\n
picked the rebel tree for her rebel heart<\/p>\n
hid there, placed her Jean Nate scent there<\/p>\n
And cried her eyes against the ancient tree\u2019s arms, it\u2019s shedding bark absorbing her sweat<\/p>\n
She didn\u2019t just die in her sleep in an inner city tenement<\/p>\n
