{"id":107826,"date":"2022-06-25T10:33:07","date_gmt":"2022-06-25T14:33:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/?p=107826"},"modified":"2022-06-25T10:33:07","modified_gmt":"2022-06-25T14:33:07","slug":"hour-2-solstice-text-prompt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2022\/06\/hour-2-solstice-text-prompt\/","title":{"rendered":"Hour 2 &#8211; Solstice &#8211; Text Prompt"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Why do they care for summer?<\/p>\n<p>Cicadas sing to bats who shriek,<\/p>\n<p>Searching for their meal this evening<\/p>\n<p>And they\u2019ll find just what they seek<\/p>\n<p>A meal\u2019s a bounty in Summer\u2019s set<\/p>\n<p>The sun\u2019s not set and will rise early<\/p>\n<p>Though Night complains you\u2019re tired surely<\/p>\n<p>The Day ignores him with her light<\/p>\n<p>A warmth seeps up from pavement<\/p>\n<p>As Day sleepily comes down,<\/p>\n<p>I can finally get some rest<\/p>\n<p>As the world transitions to evening sounds.<\/p>\n<p>The brightest evening of the year<\/p>\n<p>Makes it hard to sleep I fear.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I much prefer the winter<\/p>\n<p>Ice cracks to echoing Night<\/p>\n<p>Who sings in sweet abandon<\/p>\n<p>Shadows loom and frost does bite<\/p>\n<p>While Night plays as Day\u2019s stand-in<\/p>\n<p>Sun\u2019s set was early, a serenade<\/p>\n<p>And she won\u2019t rise til later<\/p>\n<p>Day does not complain,<\/p>\n<p>But rests long, still as a glacier<\/p>\n<p>A chill comes down upon the breath<\/p>\n<p>As Day refuses rising,<\/p>\n<p>I am comfy in my bed<\/p>\n<p>And though it\u2019s morning on the clock<\/p>\n<p>The darkest evening of the year.<\/p>\n<p>Sleeps in my embrace, held dear<\/p>\n<p><i>The line \u201cThe darkest evening of the year\u201d is lifted from Robert Frost\u2019s Poem <\/i><a href=\"https:\/\/www.poetryfoundation.org\/poems\/42891\/stopping-by-woods-on-a-snowy-evening\"><i>Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening<\/i><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Why do they care for summer?
