Way back when<\/p>\n

you played that song for me<\/p>\n

your strong fingertips<\/p>\n

doing a box step<\/p>\n

between the frets<\/p>\n

a dance routine in miniature<\/p>\n

I watched the swell<\/p>\n

of the muscles in your forearm<\/p>\n

at the effort and the art<\/p>\n

of vibrating air<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

You didn\u2019t speak<\/p>\n

you didn\u2019t have to<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I was eavesdropping\u2014<\/p>\n

listening in<\/p>\n

on the truth of you<\/p>\n

in the pitching of your weight<\/p>\n

as you played<\/p>\n

like a seabird teetering<\/p>\n

in a strong wind<\/p>\n

in the fold of your brow<\/p>\n

as you summoned<\/p>\n

a daydream<\/p>\n

distant and shining<\/p>\n

You didn\u2019t speak\u2014<\/p>\n

I wish you would<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Show me yours<\/p>\n

hold your light up to mine<\/p>\n

I could snack on these crumbs<\/p>\n

and eat your stolen secrets<\/p>\n

but I\u2019d rather be fed<\/p>\n

at the table of your dreaming<\/p>\n

and the night sky is best viewed<\/p>\n

through the eye<\/p>\n

of some dove-hearted dreamer<\/p>\n
