\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

this is the music I hear at 3 a.m.<\/p>\n

leafy \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0sticks and twigs<\/p>\n

the piano a ruined instrument<\/p>\n

but still attempting music<\/p>\n

notes lift dusty from the keyboard<\/p>\n

broken into fragments: a quarter note<\/p>\n

becomes 1\/16, a whole note just a half<\/p>\n

time means nothing now<\/p>\n

the pianist exhausted in their chair<\/p>\n

wrist extended\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 broken into pieces<\/p>\n

of a life\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 reaching for music<\/p>\n

still\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 and nothing they can hear<\/p>\n

but I hear it \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0curling through dreams<\/p>\n

dust mote notes sifting through sleep<\/p>\n

leaf and twig and splintered wood<\/p>\n

what I know so well<\/p>\n
