Across the room, a relic stands
\nIt has many a year
\nThe tunes of generations’ bands
\nHeard by many an ear
\nPlayed by a man, up in his time
\nHe’s seen and heard it all
\nRequests are grand, critiques are few
\nFrom open to last call<\/p>\n
No one knows why he stays and plays
\nThese songs that span the ages
\nAnd yet, he sits, days upon days
\nWithout a workman’s wages
\nIs it merely the love of song
\nOr something deeper still
\nAll we know is he’s going strong
\nAnd hope he always will<\/p>\n
His dedication to the craft
\nSpans the years he has known
\nHe’s signed many an autograph
\nAs “Piano Man” alone
\nNo one knows how he came to be
\nAnd still, it matters none
\nHe plays each timeless memory
\nAs if he were still young<\/p>\n
Maybe this is why he does it
\nHis own Fountain of Youth
\nWithin the notes and lyrics
\nThat speak a life of truth
\nI’m sure one day I’ll visit
\nAnd only hear the chords
\nRaining down on me from Heaven
\nAs he plays before the Lord<\/p>\n
For now, though, I’ll indulge him
\nDrink in each note that he plays
\nThese moments are his legacy
\nTo stay with me always
\nMusic is as universal
\nAs time is but a flash
\nAnd the gift the Old Man gives us
\nIs worth so much more than cash<\/p>\n
His dedication and commitment
\nThe yearning in his soul
\nPaints an everlasting portrait
\nOf a half that makes me whole
\nFor music is the color
\nIn a world of black and white
\nAnd the Old Man, like none other
