{"id":109825,"date":"2022-06-25T12:51:26","date_gmt":"2022-06-25T16:51:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/?p=109825"},"modified":"2022-06-25T12:51:26","modified_gmt":"2022-06-25T16:51:26","slug":"hour-four-the-troubles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2022\/06\/hour-four-the-troubles\/","title":{"rendered":"Hour Four &#8211; The Troubles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Troubles<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>She was proudly Irish<\/p>\n<p>But never spoke of<\/p>\n<p>the strife at home<\/p>\n<p>known as<\/p>\n<p>The Troubles<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Julianne married Tim, many<\/p>\n<p>years her senior, and<\/p>\n<p>sailed away from Cobh Harbor.<\/p>\n<p>1922.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Sailed away from village life, work<\/p>\n<p>in her father\u2019s pub, and the nuns<\/p>\n<p>who tied her hand behind her back<\/p>\n<p>to cure her of the sin of being<\/p>\n<p>left-handed.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Ellis Island \u2013 or the Hell Hole \u2013 as<\/p>\n<p>she told it.<\/p>\n<p>Endless train ride<\/p>\n<p>across this wide country<\/p>\n<p>and a strange new town in Washington State.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The babies came.
