The wine glass rested downside upon a hardback book<\/p>\n
Overlooked by some but not by me<\/p>\n
I was not stubbornly knitting<\/p>\n
Ignoring the world with my head in the sand<\/p>\n
I was not a coward.<\/p>\n
While mother kept knitting her stupid blanket<\/p>\n
I was required to set the oak table.<\/p>\n
While she drank and waxed poetic about sunflower seeds<\/p>\n
And how useful they are<\/p>\n
I did not have that luxury.<\/p>\n
My nail chipped as I sliced cheddar cheese<\/p>\n
My siblings waiting hungrily<\/p>\n
And while I could have just left<\/p>\n
Abandoned this life for a satchel and bread<\/p>\n
I dashed my dreams for space upon the pavement,<\/p>\n
Cared for children in Mother\u2019s place.<\/p>\n
I respected the books and hid the wine,<\/p>\n
And took the blame when fault was not mine.<\/p>\n
