The birds woke me up this morning with some new sounds.<\/p>\n
I can never memorize which is which, all of it is musical.\u00a0 It’s as though<\/p>\n
the sun switched on the light and surprised them all.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
And so it is every sunrise.\u00a0 I could invent a name for every birdcall,<\/p>\n
a different name for each day.\u00a0 They wouldn’t care.\u00a0 The songs would<\/p>\n
stay the same, perhaps with a mutant variation from year to year.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
I am the one who would change.\u00a0 My voice would be deeper, my text<\/p>\n
would vary in cadence.\u00a0 My feathers would turn grey, my wings shorter.<\/p>\n
If she could see me now, my mother would find me changed beyond<\/p>\n
recognition.<\/p>\n
