You buy stamps just like you did as a fifth grader ordering from Mystic Stamp Company for the first time and wanting every stamp to be the Koala one from Australia.<\/p>\n<p>Nor will it arrive in the dramatic way of your aspirations.<\/p>\n<p>You share a birthday with Laurence Olivier and like him you have a natural affinity with William Shakespeare-you\u2019re not just an Old Soul but a Jurassic one. You bask in your scaly, crotchety Leviathan-ness.<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t expect a calligraphy-scribed letter in a bottle.<\/p>\n<p>We were thinking of teasing you and inscribing this letter on your back and arms, like the tattoos we told you never to get because well, you remember, we were so strict with you and said that tattoos are a desecration of your body which is the temple of the Holy Spirit.<\/p>\n<p>no, that would be too much.<br \/>\nAnd yes, we admit we were wrong. We were so old school and blind to a lot of our own double standards.<\/p>\n<p>a tattoo now and then wouldn\u2019t irk us. But we\u2019d be worried that you wouldn\u2019t paint as much because the tattoos would take up your creative energy<\/p>\n<p>it\u2019s not that Heaven won\u2019t provide us with tons of pen and ink but such things don\u2019t seem as relevant here so this is what we\u2019re going to do\u2014<\/p>\n<p>don\u2019t look for any letter in the conventional way.<\/p>\n<p>just get up and do the things you\u2019ve always wanted<\/p>\n<p>learn to swim<\/p>\n<p>sign up for that mystery tour<\/p>\n<p>bool yourself an entire barn and light it up with a thousand lights and sit on the piano and be a torch singer for a few random hundred guests who\u2019ll have to cook\u2014you sing\u2014for their supper<\/p>\n<p>You see, ever since we left Earth and abandoned all baggage and luggage overboard we saw how much you took care of us. Every day you rose to the challenge of being a caregiver.<\/p>\n<p>that day when Dad was so weak from the pancreatic cancer that he couldn\u2019t even sit up and you were in and out of the house furiously washing lots of sheets underwear and towels so he would stay dry, and you changed his sheets every hour and wouldn\u2019t sleep except on the floor beside his bed, your hand glued to the bottle of ginger ale in case he suddenly felt thirsty and you didn\u2019t want him to miss out, \u00a0that moved us to tears<\/p>\n<p>we could see that you\u2019re the type of person who takes life by the collar and yanks it towards you for a kiss or a slap, you\u2019re that intense and engaged<\/p>\n<p>bravo you!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>we were so proud of you<\/p>\n<p>and that\u2019s why we know you\u2019ll get this message\u2014<\/p>\n<p>every day when you wake up and<\/p>\n<p>renovate the house<br \/>\nlearn new languages<\/p>\n<p>walk swim dance sing<\/p>\n<p>every day whenever you act as<\/p>\n<p>Cartographer of your heart<\/p>\n<p>rewriting the wiring of your brain and limbs as you explore<\/p>\n<p>lands of Intrepid souls<\/p>\n<p>you\u2019ll hear us<\/p>\n<p>cheering you on<\/p>\n<p>we won\u2019t say much<\/p>\n<p>nor will we give advice (unsolicited and often interfering) as much as we used to<\/p>\n<p>because we\u2019ll be so much in awe of who you\u2019re becoming that<\/p>\n<p>we\u2019re right next to you, holding onto your hands<\/p>\n<p>as you drive<\/p>\n<p>explore soar<\/p>\n<p>you\u2019ll hear us singing right along to your<\/p>\n<p>Wild Playlist<\/p>\n<p>love, your Mum and Pop<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This letter won\u2019t arrive the usual way, via post. i know how much you love to receive mail.
