Cat has come to visit.<\/p>\n
He sits on my lap.<\/p>\n
He wants attention<\/p>\n
and to help me write.<\/p>\n
He is tired of being ignored<\/p>\n
by two poet parents<\/p>\n
and their sudden love affair<\/p>\n
with their computers.<\/p>\n
He shares a purr<\/p>\n
involuntarily,<\/p>\n
he doesn’t like to give them away.<\/p>\n
He seeks warmth, closeness<\/p>\n
adoration.<\/p>\n
Until he doesn’t.<\/p>\n
A lone bird sings<\/p>\n
Outside the window<\/p>\n
A soft warble<\/p>\n
That catches his ear<\/p>\n
He listens, his ears attentive<\/p>\n
But he is too relaxed<\/p>\n
for hot pursuit<\/p>\n
right now.<\/p>\n
Noisy neighbors and my aching leg<\/p>\n
Disturb the moment.<\/p>\n
He gets up, licks himself,<\/p>\n
settles back down<\/p>\n
next to me.<\/p>\n
He will allow me a pet or two.<\/p>\n
He will share another brief purr.<\/p>\n
We contemplate each other.<\/p>\n
I write the poem.<\/p>\n
