she blooms on the summer solstice
\nsoles of her feet bare and blackened
\nshe carefully steps across the dried grass
\nruns her fingers along the top of the half-broken iron gate
\nas she talks about Carl Jung, Alan Watts, Lao Tzu<\/p>\n
through a sharp and straightened smile\u00a0she says
\n“everything happens for a reason”<\/p>\n
a ring of golden petals encircle her pupils
\neach iris, a fluctuating sunflower, shrinking and expanding
\nwind chime laughter accompanied by the actual clinking
\nof bells hung throughout the yard
\nher marred knuckles and knees make her look strong<\/p>\n
she cradles a wine glass with chipped nail polish
\n“it’s all exactly as it’s meant to be”<\/p>\n
\nshe scans her garden with subdued intensity
\nwarm shoulders glistening with sweat
\nthe heat has never bothered her – she prefers it
\nrefills the hummingbird feeder and finishes her drink
\nsits back under the gazebo breathing deeply in and out<\/p>\n
a queen in this kingdom, this heaven that she’s created
\n“there’s no such thing as coincidence”<\/p>\n
\nI stay careful not to interrupt or fidget or pace
\nflop messily down on the concrete pavement
\nfor I am scared that I’ll crush something beautiful if I’m not still
\nI want to belong to a space like this or have faith that someday I will
\nexist in a place with a more tender climate<\/p>\n
she regards me as any other flower with it’s own timing
\nwarmly reminding
\n“magic is real, you just have to find it”<\/p>\n
