Seems like every few years<\/p>\n
A voice reaches up<\/p>\n
Grabs me by the throat and the feet<\/p>\n
Tells me it’s time to move on<\/p>\n
Get out<\/p>\n
Start fresh<\/p>\n
All those clich\u00e9d ideas<\/p>\n
So I pull out boxes, I go through my stuff<\/p>\n
I toss out some<\/p>\n
I repackage others<\/p>\n
I get on a plane,<\/p>\n
Hop in a car<\/p>\n
Start anew<\/p>\n
New surroundings<\/p>\n
New people<\/p>\n
Same me<\/p>\n
Same misgivings<\/p>\n
Same failures<\/p>\n
Same ten cases of books I haven’t read<\/p>\n
The same stack of notebooks<\/p>\n
That contain great brilliance<\/p>\n
If only I could read my writing<\/p>\n
I get a new cat<\/p>\n
A new job<\/p>\n
I find a new love<\/p>\n
Every few years I try a new path<\/p>\n
Only to wake up one day<\/p>\n
To see the path is the same<\/p>\n
The same feet<\/p>\n
The same throat<\/p>\n
The same crazy voice<\/p>\n
Telling me it’s time<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
I hear that voice now,<\/p>\n
She starts as a whisper<\/p>\n
In a year she will be a roar<\/p>\n
If she doesn’t shut up tho<\/p>\n
I may have to murder her<\/p>\n
I live in paradise<\/p>\n
My path is a good one<\/p>\n
My boxes are safe<\/p>\n
My shoes are comfy.<\/p>\n
I am not going anywhere<\/p>\n
