  1. Grandma didn\u2019t talk much about going<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Home.<\/p>\n

    Her green card expired ten years ago and she\u2019s still with us.<\/p>\n

    she said she was getting old and<\/p>\n

    Time forgot her<\/p>\n

    more than she forgot everything else.<\/p>\n

    That morning when her other children sent her a plane ticket to return to the Philippines<\/p>\n

    i saw her fold it up into tight pieces<\/p>\n

    a silent accordion<\/p>\n

    I was just a teenager and never left home<\/p>\n

    but I understood\u2014<\/p>\n

    that feeling of being homesick for a place you have yet to see<\/p>\n

    a map you\u2019ve folded and unfolded<\/p>\n

    she wanted me to drive her cross country across mainland<\/p>\n
