\nHe always wanted one.
\nI talked him in to getting it dug.
\nThen the drought set in.<\/p>\n
This year, finally, it rained.
\nTwenty inches in one month.
\nI photographed the full pond,
\nsent the photo to my son,
\ntold him we’d stock it with fingerlings
\nnext spring.<\/p>\n
There’s no poem here.<\/p>\n
What about love,
\na couple sitting together
\nin a lovely place?
\nThis photo would never be us.
\nI can’t sit still long enough,
\nbut we are comfortable together.<\/p>\n
We bicker. We laugh more.
\nI like to read.
\nYou watch television.
\nWe agree on politics
\nbut not on the best way to travel.
\nI like hikes, museums, local fare.
\nYou like driving and driving and driving,
\nstopping only for coffee, to pee,
\nto photograph.<\/p>\n

\nI’m a writer.<\/p>\n
