Parading up the Canyon of Heroes (Poetry Marathon 2022 – Hour 7)<\/p>\n
In Manhattan up the Canyon of Heroes
\nAre parades to honor those
\nWho have done something amazing
\nUsually NY sports teams that have won
\nThe championship for that sport.
\nThey parade up the Canyon of Heroes
\nIn flatbed trucks and cars
\nAnd people line up to cheer them on.
\nWe throw from the window bits of pape
\n(What at one time was shredded paper
\nKnown as ticker tape
\nAnd is now paper shredded in a paper shredder)
\nFrom the high rise office buildings that still have windows
\nThat line Broadway in lower Manhattan
\nAnd they turn on Chambers Street
\nAlong City Hall Park
\nThe Woman\u2019s Soccer team, the Yankees, the Giants
\nWhen they won, they paraded.
\nAnd from time to time real heroes
\nReturning veterans
\nParade up the Canyon of Heros
\n911 First Responders
\nCovid Pandemic workers
\nAlso got to parade.<\/p>\n
I would take a camera to work as the building
\nI worked in
\nWas on the Corner of Broadway a block North of Chambers
\nAnd I could take a ton of pictures
\nAnd I would share them on Facebook.
\nI never stood along the street to cheer
\nAnd I never threw anything out the window.
\nLittering even for a good cause was not my thing.<\/p>\n
In some of the pictures the shredded paper was so thick
\nIt looked like colored snow.
\nWe should have a ticker tape parade
