Snapshot isn\u2019t even a term anymore
\nwe don\u2019t even take photographs
\neverything is generic, staged \u2018shot\u2019
\ntruth be told we don\u2019t even use cameras<\/p>\n
But at the bottom of an ancient shoebox
\nthere is a snapshot of you, sitting on
\nthe front step of my apartment building
\ncirca nineteen-seventy-whatever<\/p>\n
The picture is grainy, in look and feel
\ntaken with my mom\u2019s Kodak Instamatic
\nprinted with a fancy, matte finish
\nphoto itself has a rough texture to it <\/p>\n
There is more background than you in
\nthe picture; steps, shrubs on either side
\nthe building itself \u2013 all prominent, but
\nyou are centered, as was your way<\/p>\n
Yours a classic look of a then typical
\nnineteen-year-old college student \u2013
\njeans, blue denim shirt, unbuttoned
\njust so, gold-rim, aviator sunglasses<\/p>\n
Even at distance your smile is palpable
\nbrown hair cascades off your shoulders
\nbody language, relaxed, unconcerned
\nelbows on knees, arms hanging loose<\/p>\n
At the bottom of an ancient shoebox
\nthere is a curled, coarse snapshot of you
\nI have taken it out a few times
\nscanned it, trying to enhance you <\/p>\n
you are too small, not detailed enough
\nso the picture stays at bottom of that box
\nwhere such things should reside
\nit is a snapshot of you, finely detailed<\/p>\n
Just not on film. <\/p>\n
