Who am I when I’m at home alone?
\nQuieter, perhaps, unless I sing,<\/p>\n
find rhythms on my drums, take a break at my piano.
\nI don’t talk as much. The dogs don’t respond.
\nI write things down instead.<\/p>\n
I’ll read my poems and essays to you, when you’re home,
\nbecause you’re thoughtful, honest without being harsh.<\/p>\n
You tell it like it is. Excuse the cliche,
\nbut it works here. Describes your no nonsense way<\/p>\n
but not why I’m someone different when you’re here.
\nWho am I when I’m at home with you?<\/p>\n
I read my poems and essays to you,
\nthe work I make when I’m alone, work
\nthat’s born in silence. When you’re here<\/p>\n
you fill the silent spaces where I can think things through
