Teach?!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I never really understood this obsession<br \/>\nwith having to choose some approved &#8220;profession&#8221;<br \/>\nand as professions go, what was wrong with teaching?<\/p>\n<p><em>I&#8217;m going to be a teacher.<\/em><br \/>\nCollege. English. But more than that.<\/p>\n<p>Like so much in life, I was drawn<br \/>\nto the most abused and suffering.<\/p>\n<p>For thirty years, I asked my developmental learners<br \/>\n<em>What&#8217;s your major?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>I&#8217;m going to be a teacher<\/em><br \/>\nsome would respond<br \/>\nand I would offer a wisened nod.<\/p>\n<p><em>But what&#8217;s your backup plan<br \/>\nJust in case?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>[Prompt 7: Gigan]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What&#8217;s your major?
