Summer swelters beyond my exhausted window<\/p>\n
hot inside air pulled outside where it belongs.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
I\u2019m comfortable here at my computer –<\/p>\n
a cool cat writing poetry,<\/p>\n
sporting a beret back in a 1950s caf\u00e9.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
When I was nine to thirteen, I loved Maynard G. Krebs,<\/p>\n
the Beatnik poet on Dobie Gillis.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
He broke all the rules my parents lived by –<\/p>\n
the ones I knew I dare not break.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Strange the memories that surface while<\/p>\n

When I was nine to thirteen, I loved Maynard G. Krebs,<\/p>\n
at fifteen had a crush on a poet friend in high school,<\/p>\n
discovered I was bound by societal rules of engagement.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Then, at eighteen, I broke the rules, got pregnant, had an illegal abortion –<\/p>\n
