{"id":113165,"date":"2022-06-25T17:27:14","date_gmt":"2022-06-25T21:27:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/?p=113165"},"modified":"2022-06-26T10:48:49","modified_gmt":"2022-06-26T14:48:49","slug":"curse-of-the-apple-crisp-hour-9","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2022\/06\/curse-of-the-apple-crisp-hour-9\/","title":{"rendered":"Curse of the Apple Crisp &#8211; HOUR 9"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I searched in my cupboard for a food that brought up a childhood memory<\/p>\n<p>but nothing worked.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m descended from a long line of omnivores.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m a boomer whose mom cooked with canned foods and processed flours, every kind of fat, and she baked a lot.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m not her.<\/p>\n<p>For eight years, I\u2019ve eaten a plant-based diet, low in fat, dairy, and meat free.<\/p>\n<p>I don\u2019t want to eat meat any longer. The texture and taste do nothing for me. Although I do indulge in the occasional piece of cheese.<\/p>\n<p>At the beginning, I had trouble finding products to keep me plant- based but today with more people joining the movement, it\u2019s easier to purchase foods for my diet.<\/p>\n<p>I felt bad that I failed in finding a something in my cupboard that triggered a childhood memory, so I went back to take another look, and there it was \u2013 brown sugar. I recalled one of my favourite desserts &#8211; hot apple crisp with that rich, sugary, crunchy, cinnamon and nutmeg, oatmeal, and butter topping crowned with a scoop of melting vanilla ice cream.<\/p>\n<p>Mom used food as a reward and made this dessert often. Unfortunately for my waistline, it\u2019s a lesson I have yet to unlearn. It\u2019s the curse of the apple crisp.<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t tell anyone, I still make it today!
