Tea!<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">They like it English fashion:<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">hot black tea with milk &amp; sugar<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">served in a Beatrix Potter cup.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">The way my own two sons drank it<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">the way I drank it as a young woman<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">long ago &amp; far away. Before<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">there were rabbit cups &amp; saucers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">And strong mint tea, served<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">in ornate glasses, gilded traceries<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">along the rims. Syrupy with sugar,<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">held carefully between fingertips.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">And cool herbal teas, tall &amp; frosty<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">with condensation, sweet with fruit<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">&amp; Demerara, stirred with my mother\u2019s<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">sterling spoon, on my grandmother\u2019s saucer.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Tea\u2019s steam rising \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0curling<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">winding around us like a daisy chain<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">holding us together.
