The Rabbit and the Owl (Poetry Marathon 2022 – Hour 10)<\/p>\n
Once upon a time
\nIn a village for away
\nLived a family of rabbits
\nFranklyn Jr. was the head of the household
\nHe father Franklyn senior
\nAlong with his wives
\nLived with Jr.\u2019s family
\nJr had only one wife and was deeply in love
\nOne day on his way to work
\nJr thought he saw an owl flying overhead
\nJr as one of the leaders of the community
\nKnew that the owls had made a treaty
\nWith the local rabbit village
\nTo stay out of the village
\nJr was worried for his family\u2019s safety.
\nThe local rabbits had grown
\nAccustomed to the lack of predators,
\nAnd did not exercise as much as
\nThere ancestors had.
\nSr used to tell stories
\nOf how the rabbits
\nWould often race each other
\nAs a way to learn how to avoid predators
\nLike owls and hawks.
\nJr had a vision that if nothing was done
\nThe owls would descend from the sky
\nAnd destroy the rabbit village.
\nHe rang the alarm over and over
\nBut all the other rabbits had grown complacent
\nWith their stations in life.
\nOne rabbit was so bold as to say
\nThat after the tortoise had beaten the rabbit
\nIn the famous race
\nAnd nothing bad happened
\nWell, nothing bad could happen.<\/p>\n
Jr kept hearing the voice that told him
\nTo learn how to run faster
\nSo Jr, his wife and children
\nWould go out in the overgrown fields
\nAnd run as fast as they could for as long as they could.
\nBut even Sr would not heed the call.
\nAnd Sr his wives and other children and grand children just laughed
\nAt Jr and his family as they practiced everyday.
\nOne night seemingly without warning
\nThe owls attacked and ate all the rabbits in the village
\nExcept Jr, his wife and their children.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
