Maybe it’s been there a week<\/p>\n
Sometimes life surprises you like that<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
But there it was<\/p>\n
A couple blocks from my house<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
A recliner the color of tired goldrush<\/p>\n
Sitting on the northeast corner of the the intersection<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
A hole head-height<\/p>\n
Worn threadbare from the weight of thoughts<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
I imagine in its proud earlier days<\/p>\n
More citrus, more orange, with a hint of lemon<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Now it sits there un-sat<\/p>\n
A silent, stationary traffic guardian.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
I wonder if there is a such thing as<\/p>\n
Chair purgatory<\/p>\n
Or if like Sisyphus the chair<\/p>\n
Is mocked by the gods<\/p>\n
And doomed to sit unfilled…unfullfilled…<\/p>\n
Its arms outstretched, awaiting the weight<\/p>\n
Of human touch<\/p>\n
No more<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Perhaps, with its last days of chair dignity left,<\/p>\n
It remembers grandparents and unexpected company<\/p>\n
It holds watch<\/p>\n
For hospitality<\/p>\n
