{"id":115229,"date":"2022-06-25T19:18:57","date_gmt":"2022-06-25T23:18:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/?p=115229"},"modified":"2022-06-25T19:18:57","modified_gmt":"2022-06-25T23:18:57","slug":"brother-tree","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2022\/06\/brother-tree\/","title":{"rendered":"Brother Tree"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>My Brother Tree and I commune every day,<\/p>\n<p>this wise and kindly sugar oak,<\/p>\n<p>I receiving strength, peace, and courage from him.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I do not know what he receives from me.<\/p>\n<p>I cannot fathom what I could offer such a being as a tree.<\/p>\n<p>I only know that we exchange a kind of energy in those moments<\/p>\n<p>and that my life is gladdened by his presence.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Did you know that if you stand beneath your favorite tree<\/p>\n<p>and hold a spray of leaves against your face,<\/p>\n<p>or pick up a good handful from the earth,<\/p>\n<p>if you breathe in the almost magical scent of happy tree,<\/p>\n<p>that the strength,\u00a0peace,\u00a0and courage of that tree<\/p>\n<p>are infused into your body, your mind, and your heart?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Try it one day; it\u2019s real,<\/p>\n<p>but you have to be open to it.<\/p>\n<p>You have to invite it.<\/p>\n<p>Trees are gentlefolk; they do not enter unless invited.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>All spring, all summer, the trees labor to make leaves,<\/p>\n<p>flowers, oxygen<\/p>\n<p>for the sustaining of life on this planet,<\/p>\n<p>to make homes and food for birds, for squirrels,<\/p>\n<p>for tiny spineless beings too myriad to count.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>And in autumn they rest. They shed the parts of themselves<\/p>\n<p>that are no longer useful,<\/p>\n<p>no longer healthy,<\/p>\n<p>no longer beneficial.<\/p>\n<p>And they restore themselves,<\/p>\n<p>readying themselves for next season\u2019s tasks.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Would that we could attain the wisdom of the trees.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My Brother Tree and I commune every day, this wise and kindly sugar oak, I receiving strength, peace, and courage from him. &nbsp; I do not know what he receives from me.
