{"id":115457,"date":"2022-06-25T19:31:57","date_gmt":"2022-06-25T23:31:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/?p=115457"},"modified":"2024-02-16T01:10:25","modified_gmt":"2024-02-16T06:10:25","slug":"samson-and-the-stargiant-a-legend-of-the-sheep","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2022\/06\/samson-and-the-stargiant-a-legend-of-the-sheep\/","title":{"rendered":"Samson and the Stargiant: (a Legend of the Sheep)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Deep was the winter night,<br \/>\nThe snow as thick as wool.<br \/>\nSilent prowled the stargiant<br \/>\nSeeking beetle-jewels.<\/p>\n<p>Close he wandered to the flock<br \/>\nOf small Mulberry Farm,<br \/>\nHis glinting eyes as sharp as frost<br \/>\nAnd cold enough to harm.<\/p>\n<p>Terrified they took to flight,<br \/>\nAll slowed with snowy weight.<br \/>\nThey made it halfway down the hill<br \/>\nBut couldn\u2019t cross the gate!<\/p>\n<p>The younger sheep all scattered far,<br \/>\nThe older ewes were trembling,<br \/>\nAnd left behind on little legs<br \/>\nWas Samson, yet a yearling.<\/p>\n<p>Samson of the fluffy fleece!<br \/>\nSamson of the fables!<br \/>\nSamson the adventurer<br \/>\nOf field and farm and stable.<\/p>\n<p>The giant neared them steadily,<br \/>\nHis breath as sharp as shears,<br \/>\nHis footsteps bleak and crackling<br \/>\nAs every lambling fears.<\/p>\n<p>Small Samson found beside the fence<br \/>\nA hole through to the yard<br \/>\nBut, this hero, flee the flock?<br \/>\nNo! He ran back and &#8211;<\/p>\n<p>BAAAAAAAAA\u2019ed<\/p>\n<p>He roared so fierce, so nobly,<br \/>\nThe sunflock rose to graze.<br \/>\nWith day the starkin crumpled<br \/>\nAnd melted clean away.<\/p>\n<p>In dawnlight rising gently,<br \/>\nMulberry Farm was saved.<br \/>\nAll voices raised in bleating clear<br \/>\n\u2018Samson!
